| Profit Worksheet: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Self-publishing can be profitable depending on how many books you are able to sell at the book's Retail Price. Our Book Packages are structured to provide maximum profitability because we keep the "per book" unit price as low as possible. Our 250 book Book Packages hit the printer's volume price break: order fewer books and the cost per book goes up. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The following worksheet shows how the per-book unit cost affects profitability. The worksheet assumes you have ordered 250 copies of the 26 page Art Catalog with a package price of $1500 (plus shipping.) Let's assume $200 in shipping costs for a total Package Price of $1700. Cost per book is the Package Price ($1700) divided by the number of books (250): $6.80 Retail Price is whatever you decide. Typically, soft-bound art books are priced at $15.95 to $24.95, though you can charge more if the edition is signed and numbered. |

Break even is the number of copies that must be sold at the Retail Price to pay for the cost of the Book Package. Once break even is achieved, the remaining copies of the edition are sold at profit. Remember this worksheet does not take into account such costs as gallery percentages, art fair booth fees, etc. Wholesale prices to book stores and Amazon.com are typically 50% of the Retail Price. |
